Publishing your changes
Changes you make in the app builder are a draft until you publish them. Review what will change, publish, discard, or bring back an earlier version.
Your changes are a draft until you publish
Anything you change in the app builder is saved as you go, but customers don't see it yet. Adding a section, moving a product, renaming a page or changing a block is saved as a draft that only you and your team can see. Your kiosk, register, online ordering page and menu boards keep showing what they showed before.
When you're ready, press Publish in the top bar. Until then you can keep working, leave the builder, and come back later: your draft is still there.
The builder's top bar shows how many changes are waiting, for example 3 unpublished changes. When there's nothing waiting, the button reads No changes.
Reviewing and publishing
Publish opens a review that lists every change in plain words, such as:
- Added section Brunch, with 3 things inside
- Changed section Coffee: icon, picture
- Removed section Old specials and the 4 things inside it
- Rearranged the contents of page Menu
If you've changed the app's look in Design, the review lists it too, as its own group. A look can be shared by several apps; the review names the other apps it would also change, and a shared look starts unticked so you decide deliberately.
If the app uses a saved block that has changes not published yet, the review lists it under Saved blocks. Publishing a saved block changes it in every app that uses it, so the review says so. Saved blocks are ticked to start with; untick one to keep its changes as a draft.
Untick anything you'd rather keep as a draft, then press Publish selected. Customers see the changes straight away. If one part publishes and the other can't, you're told exactly which went out.
If someone else changed the same app in another window while you were reviewing, you're asked to look again before publishing, so neither of you overwrites the other without seeing it.
Seeing your draft before you publish
The builder's preview has a Draft / Live switch. Draft shows the real customer screen with your unpublished changes; Live shows what customers see now. See Building ordering apps.
Discarding changes
Discard throws away every menu change you haven't published, and the builder goes back to what customers see now. You're asked to confirm first, because this can't be undone.
Bringing back an earlier version
Every publish is kept. Press the History button (the clock icon) next to Discard, or Earlier versions in the app overview, to see each time the app was published, newest first. Bring back makes that version your draft. Nothing changes for customers until you publish it, so you can look it over first.
Which changes wait for Publish
Drafts cover what you change in the builder: the pages, sections, products, folders and blocks that make up the menu. That includes changes the assistant makes for you through Ask at the bottom of the builder: they go into the same draft, appear in the same review, and can be taken back with Undo on the line it shows after each request (see Building ordering apps).
Settings under App settings (checkout options, bookings, menu and tiles, attract loops, languages) still apply as soon as you save them. If switching off bookings removes ticket tiles from the menu, they're also removed from your draft, so publishing later doesn't bring them back.
Show to customers and Hide from customers, in the menu on the Live / Hidden label next to the app's name, control whether customers can reach the app at all. That's separate from publishing changes: a hidden app can still have a draft, and publishing changes doesn't make a hidden app visible.
