Asking the Copilot

Ask Wiki's Copilot questions, request edits, and understand the AI autonomy setting for each space.

Asking the Copilot

Wiki has a built-in AI assistant — the Copilot — available as a docked chat panel wherever you're working in the wiki. It knows which space and page you're looking at, so you can ask it questions or ask it to help without repeating context.

Asking questions

Ask the Copilot anything a published page might answer — "What's our policy on late cancellations?" or "How do I reset the card reader?" The Copilot searches your published pages and answers with citations: links to the exact page (and version) the answer came from, so you can always check the source.

If nothing in the wiki answers your question, the Copilot says so honestly rather than guessing, and offers to draft a starting page for the topic. Questions that come back unanswered (or only partly answered) are quietly tracked — if enough staff ask about the same gap, the Copilot may later propose a new page to fill it (see the AI inbox, below).

You can also ask questions from outside the wiki entirely — see Asking from the POS AI hub below.

Asking for edits and new pages

Beyond answering questions, you can ask the Copilot to make changes:

  • "Update the opening-hours page — we now open at 8am on weekends."
  • "Create a new page under Kitchen procedures for the new fryer."
  • "Move the allergy page under Food safety."
  • "Tag this page with 'onboarding'."

The Copilot makes these changes using your own permissions — it can't do anything you couldn't do yourself by hand. If you're an editor, its edits land in the page's working draft, exactly like typing them in yourself; publishing still follows the space's normal review setting. If you only have viewer access, its edits are filed as a suggestion for a reviewer, just like suggesting an edit manually.

The AI autonomy setting

Each space has an AI autonomy setting (space Settings → AI autonomy) that controls how much independent initiative the AI is given in that space:

  • Strict — every AI change, even one you asked for in chat, becomes a suggestion for a reviewer to check before it reaches the draft. Use this for compliance-sensitive or food-safety spaces where every change needs a second set of eyes.
  • Standard (the default) — when you chat with the Copilot yourself, its edits go straight to the working draft under your own permissions, the same as if you'd typed them. Anything the AI does on its own (not asked by you — see the AI inbox) is still always filed as a suggestion.
  • Open — same as Standard, plus the AI is allowed to quietly fix small things on its own, like typos and broken links, directly in the working draft. It never publishes anything on its own in any mode.

No matter the setting, AI-driven changes never publish themselves — publishing always goes through the space's normal review process.

Asking from the POS AI hub

You don't have to open the wiki to ask it a question. From the AI hub in the main POS admin, open the wiki assistant and ask your question the same way. It answers using the same published pages and citations, with links back into the wiki — handy for staff who mostly work the floor and don't need full wiki access.
