AI product photos
Generate a professional photo for any product — pick a look, choose between two options, and refine until it's right.
No photographer? No problem. Every product's edit page has a Create with AI button next to its photo, which opens a small studio for generating one.
Where to find it
Open any product and look at the Photo field. Alongside the usual upload a file and choose from media library options, there's a Create with AI button. Your media library has the same option too — open an image there and choose Improve / variations to generate new versions of a photo you already have. You can also just ask for one — see Asking for a photo in chat below.
Picking a look
A look is a photography style — the lighting, background and finish the picture will have. Choose from a handful of ready-made looks built for cafés, bars and restaurants — a clean white background, a rustic wooden table, an overhead flat lay, a lifestyle shot in a real venue setting, dark and moody, or bright and airy — or write your own description if none of them are quite what you're after.
You can also help it along with:
- A photo of the item itself — your own snapshot, even a rough one on your phone. The AI looks at it before generating anything, so the finished photo matches what you actually serve rather than a generic guess.
- An example image to match — a photo whose lighting and mood you want copied, without copying what's actually in it.
Neither is required. If the product already has a name and description, that alone is usually enough to generate something recognisable.
Doing many products at once
Got a whole menu with no photos? From the Stock items or Bookable products list, tick the rows you want and choose Create images from the bar that appears above the table (up to 100 products in one go). You'll land on a dedicated review page rather than a small popup, since there's more to look at.
The first product runs through the same studio described above — pick a look, generate, refine until you're happy. Whatever you approve there becomes the recipe for the rest: every other selected product generates in that same style automatically, using its own name, description, category and tags.
Before the rest run, you're shown what the first image actually cost and what that works out to for the whole batch, weighed against what's left of your AI budget for the month — so you know the real cost before committing, not a guess. Confirm, and the rest generate in the background; you're free to leave the page and come back later, since the batch keeps going either way.
Once everything's finished, you'll see every product next to its new photo. Untick any you don't want, retry any that failed, then Apply — only the photos you keep are actually saved to those products.
Saving your own looks
Found a combination you like — maybe your own custom style text plus a particular example image — and want to use it again on other products? Click Save this look and give it a name. It then shows up alongside the built-in looks every time you open the studio, so the next product gets the exact same style with one click.
A saved look can be given to one location only, or made available everywhere — your choice when you save it. You can remove a saved look at any time; doing so never changes photos you've already generated with it, since each accepted photo remembers exactly what it was made with.
Choose, then refine
Click Generate and you'll get two options to choose between — pick whichever is closer to what you want. Not quite right? Type what to change in plain English — "warmer lighting," "smaller portion," "less shiny" — and generate again. Keep going for as many rounds as you like; every earlier attempt stays on screen so you can go back to one if a later try misses the mark.
Only what you keep is saved
Nothing is added to your media library until you click Use this one. Every option you didn't pick — across every round — is discarded completely and never appears anywhere. Once you accept an image, it's added to your product's photo the same way an upload would be; you still need to save the product for it to take effect.
Improving a photo that's already on a product
Open an image from your media library and choose Improve / variations, and the original photo is left exactly as it was — anything already using it keeps showing it, even mid-improve. If that photo is currently on one or more products, you'll be offered a one-click option afterwards to switch those products over to the new version — you'll see how many, and anything that couldn't be updated automatically is listed too, so nothing changes silently.
Asking for a photo in chat
Prefer to just ask? Open Ask Ma and describe what you want — "make me a hero shot of the margherita pizza on a rustic wooden table." It generates the image and adds it straight to your media library, ready to use — no studio screen needed.
If you're already chatting about a specific set of products — for example, right after importing a menu — you can also ask it to generate photos for all of them at once. It'll give you a rough cost first, then hand you off to the same review page described above, where the real cost is confirmed once the first image is done.
It costs money
Each image generated draws from your company's AI budget, the same one your other AI features share (set under Settings → Integrations → OpenRouter). The exact cost is shown after each generation. If your company reaches its monthly budget, generating new images is paused until the next period or until someone raises the cap.
Generating images is available to managers, admins and owners.
