Navigation lists
Build your header and footer menus and any other link lists, nest links under each other, let lists fill themselves with new pages, and choose how each Navigation widget shows a list.
Navigation (under Content) is where your website's link lists live. Every site has a Header menu and a Footer menu, and you can add as many more as you like — for example Our menus, listing each of your menu pages, or Legal, with your terms and privacy pages.
A list doesn't appear anywhere on its own. You show it with a Navigation menu widget, in your header, your footer or on a page, and choose which list that widget shows.
Making a list
Under Lists, type a name in New list and click Create list. You can rename any list, and delete the ones you made (the header and footer menus always stay). Deleting a list removes its links, and any Navigation widget showing it then shows nothing.
Adding links
Choose a list, then use Add a link:
- Give it a label — what visitors see.
- Link to one of your pages, or choose External URL for another website.
- Choose where it sits — at the top level, or under another link to make it a sub link. Links can go three levels deep.
A link to a page that isn't published yet stays hidden from visitors until you publish the page.
Use the arrows to reorder links next to each other, Edit to rename a link or move it under a different one, and ✕ to remove it (its sub links go with it).
Adding pages automatically
Under Add pages automatically, a list can fill itself, so new pages appear the moment you publish them — no need to come back and add them:
- Every top-level page, or The pages under one page — handy for a list of everything under your Menus page.
- Include sub pages nests each page's own sub pages beneath it. This also works for a page you linked by hand: link Menus yourself, and every menu page you publish under it appears beneath it.
- Choose which kinds of content count — pages, blog posts and events — the order (as in your Pages list, A to Z, or newest first), whether they go before or after the links you added yourself, and any pages to leave out.
A page you've already linked by hand is never added twice.
The What visitors see panel shows the finished list, with automatically added links marked auto.
Choosing how a widget shows a list
Each Navigation menu widget has its own settings, so the same list can look different in different places:
- Which list to show, and what to show instead if the list is empty — new sites' footers show the header menu's top-level links until the footer menu has links of its own.
- Levels — top-level links only, or sub links too. In a header, sub links open as a drop-down when visitors point at or tab to a link; on phones and in a vertical menu they show underneath.
- Order — as arranged in the list, newest first, or A to Z.
- Links — all of them, only pages on your site, or only other links.
- Show at most — for example, newest first and at most 5 shows your five most recent pages.
Using the AI
The AI copilot can see your lists, make new ones, add links and set a list to fill itself — try "make an Our menus list with every page under Menus and put it on the menu page". Changes to lists take effect on your live site straight away, so the AI tells you when it has made one.
