Customer display screen
Set up a second screen that shows customers their order and receipt, and plays your marketing between sales.
A customer display is a second screen that faces the customer at a POS terminal. As staff ring up an order, the customer sees each item, any discounts, loyalty, and the running total. After payment, "Your order number is" appears with the number shown very large next to a big QR code for the receipt and the total, with the order's items still listed alongside — and between sales it plays your marketing loop.
The marketing loop starts the moment the screen has nothing else to show — the instant it's first opened, and again the instant a confirmation finishes or an empty sale is cleared. There's no wait either time. Staff can also put any past order's receipt up on the screen the same way, from that order's Receipt button under Search → Orders, for as long as the receipt panel stays open.
It usually runs in a second window on the same computer as the POS, on a second monitor turned toward the customer — so it stays in sync instantly, with nothing extra to connect. It can also run on its own separate tablet — see "Use a separate tablet" below.
A till has one customer screen, not two. Pair a tablet as the customer screen and the tablet becomes the customer screen for that till: the second window on the till computer is no longer used, and won't show orders, switch to kiosk, or count as connected. If it's still open, it says so and can be closed. Unpair the tablet under Settings → Devices and the second window takes over again.
Set it up once
- Go to Apps → New app and choose the type Customer display (POS second screen). Give it a name (e.g. "Front counter display").
- On its settings, pick the marketing loop it plays between sales — a single attract theme, or an attract app to follow its day/time schedules — and adjust the timings. The receipt stays up for its configured time, then the marketing loop starts straight away.
- Turn on Default for this location. Every POS terminal at this location will now use this screen automatically.
- Press Show to customers (top right). Terminals use the app only once it's live.
That's it — you don't need to set anything on each POS terminal.
Open it on a terminal
On the POS, open the More menu (bottom of the side rail) and choose Open customer display. It opens in a new window — drag it to the customer-facing monitor and use the Fullscreen button in the corner.
This is the way to run a customer display when the till has no customer screen tablet paired to it. If one is paired, that tablet is the customer screen and this window isn't used.
Use a separate tablet
You don't need a second monitor — a customer screen can also run on its own tablet, connected over the internet instead of plugged into the register.
- In Settings → Devices, choose Add customer screen, pick the register it belongs to, and save. This gives you a pairing code and QR code, just like adding any other device.
- On the tablet, scan the QR code (or open the pairing page and enter the code by hand). On an iPad, don't scan the code straight away — set the tablet up as described in step 3 first, then enter the code from inside the app you added to the Home Screen. An iPad keeps a separate sign-in for Safari and for a Home Screen app, so a code entered in Safari won't carry across.
- So the tablet always comes back to the right screen after a restart, set it to open its launch link automatically at startup. See Tablets as registers and customer screens for how to set that up on Android, iPad and Windows tablets.
Once paired, the tablet shows "Waiting for the register to connect…" until the register is open, then mirrors the sale exactly like a second monitor would — items, totals, and the receipt QR at the end. Both the register and the tablet just need an internet connection; they don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
From that point the tablet is the till's customer screen and a second window on the till computer is not used — the register won't send orders to it, and switching to kiosk switches the tablet, never a window on the till. Open that window and it shows a short message naming the tablet instead of the customer's order.
Close the old window after you pair a tablet. A window that was already open keeps showing whatever was last on it until someone closes or reloads it. Close it once, and it won't come back with anything on it. Each till can have one customer screen tablet, and each customer screen tablet belongs to one till.
Inviting walk-ins to join your rewards
After a sale with no customer attached, if your rewards program is switched on, the customer screen shows a second QR code alongside the receipt: "Join our rewards — scan to start earning." The customer scans it, enters their email, and joins — and that purchase earns points right away, before they've even left the counter.
It never shows for a sale where you attached a customer, and it doesn't slow anything down — it appears next to the usual receipt QR. After updating your loyalty program settings, reload the customer screen once so it picks up the change.
Turning it into a self-service kiosk
If a customer-screen tablet has a kiosk app available, the register's More menu shows an Enable Kiosk button. Tapping it opens a Customer screen panel showing what the tablet is doing right now; press Switch to kiosk there to turn it into a self-service ordering screen for the next customer. To switch it back, choose Back to customer display in the same menu, then Switch to customer display.
Switching back to the customer display is refused while a card payment is in progress on the tablet — finish or cancel that payment first, then switch back.
Customer touch
The register's More menu has a Customer touch: On / Off entry. Turning it off blocks touches on the customer-facing screen so a customer can't accidentally interact with it while staff are ringing up an order; turning it on (or switching the screen into Kiosk mode) restores touch for self-service ordering.
The one exception is the Fullscreen button in the corner: it stays tappable even while customer touch is off, so a till with no mouse can always put the screen back to full screen. It's the only control that answers touch there, and all it can do is return the screen to full screen — a customer still can't reach the order or leave the page.
Overriding a single terminal
If one terminal should use a different screen — or none at all — open that POS app's settings, go to the Customer display tab, and choose Use location default, a specific display, or Off for this terminal.
Tips
- The screen shows "Waiting for the register to connect…" until the POS window is open and connected. Once a sale starts (or the marketing loop kicks in) that message disappears.
- Between sales the screen plays your marketing loop. If you haven't chosen one yet, it shows a simple branded welcome instead — add images or video to the marketing loop on the customer display app's settings.
- Whether it's a second monitor on the same computer or a separate paired tablet, the customer screen mirrors one terminal only — and a terminal drives one customer screen. Pairing a tablet replaces the second window on the till computer rather than adding to it.
- Customer touch: On / Off in the More menu always applies to the screen that's actually in use — the paired tablet when there is one, otherwise the second screen on the till computer.
