Products and modifiers

Create products of every kind — items, gift cards, tickets, sessions, passes, memberships — with photos, modifiers, and options.

Everything you sell is a product. Open Products in the admin sidebar (with the right location selected) and choose New product.

Two lists: Stock items and Bookable products

Products splits what you sell into two lists so each is easy to find:

  • Stock items — your regular menu and retail items.
  • Bookable products — tickets, sessions, multi-day bookings, gift cards and memberships. This list shows each product's type, its options, its "from" price (the cheapest option) and its schedules at a glance, so you can see how each one is set up without opening it.

Both lists have a search box and filters for Category, Area and Status, sortable columns (including an Area column), and show 50 products at a time. Tick the checkbox next to one or more rows — or select a page and choose Select all N matching to grab everything your filters find, not just what's on screen — and a bar appears above the table for editing several products at once: Area, Category, Tags, Accounting, Available for sale, Taxable and Discountable, plus Modifiers and Availability on the Stock items list. For Tags, Modifiers and Availability, choose Add to existing to layer the change on top of what each product already has, or Replace to set exactly what you pick and clear anything else.

The Products menu also holds everything you use to price and schedule what you sell: Discounts, Price rules, Resources and Availability.

Product types

Mavos supports six product types. Which ones you can create is controlled company-wide under Settings → Organisation, with an optional per-location override under Settings → Location details.

TypeWhat it sells
StandardA regular menu or retail item
Gift cardA gift card — the paid amount becomes the card balance
TicketCapacity-limited entry — either for a specific date or time slot, or usable any time
SessionA timed booking of a resource, like a lane, court or room
Multi-dayA booking or pass spanning one or more days
MembershipA membership billed automatically every week or month

For a Ticket product you also choose how it's booked:

  • Scheduled — the customer picks from dates or time slots you run, with capacity limits.
  • Anytime — the ticket isn't tied to a slot; the customer buys it and uses it whenever it's valid (see Validity under Options).

The product form shows only the sections each type uses. For the booking types see the bookings overview and passes; for memberships see Memberships; for gift cards see Gift cards.

The basics

  • Name and description — what customers see on kiosks, QR menus, and receipts.
  • Price — entered in your currency. Gift cards can instead be open price, where the buyer chooses the amount (within a minimum and maximum you set).
  • Category — where the item sits on your menus; manage categories under Products → Categories & tags.
  • Area — an optional operational tag, separate from Category — which kitchen screen or part of the business the item belongs to. Areas feed kitchen routing and reporting, and every product type can set one, not just stock items. Manage areas alongside categories and tags under Products → Categories & tags; an area can apply to just this location or to every location. An option under a ticket, session, multi-day or membership product automatically shares its parent's area.
  • Photo — add a product image; you can upload one or pick from your media library. Menus look dramatically better with photos, especially on kiosks.
  • Optional extras like calories, prep time, and an alcohol flag, where relevant to your industry.

Modifier lists (sizes, extras, choices)

Modifiers let customers customise an item — milk choice, toppings, cooking preference. They're built as reusable modifier lists:

  1. Go to Products → Modifier lists and choose New list.
  2. Name it (e.g. "Milk choice") and add the options, each with an optional extra price.
  3. Set the rules:
    • Required — the customer must choose before adding the item.
    • Minimum / maximum selections — e.g. "pick exactly 1" for sizes, or "up to 3" for toppings.
  4. Attach the list to any products that use it.

Because lists are shared, updating "Toppings" once updates every product that uses it. On the POS, kiosk, and QR apps, the modifier screen appears automatically when an item with modifiers is tapped.

Options

Ticket, Session, Multi-day and Membership products are built from options — what customers actually buy (Adult / Child tickets, Dorm bed / Private room, membership tiers). On these products the edit page puts the options front and centre: the product holds the name, description, image, category and tags, while every option underneath carries its own price, image, description, sale window, modifiers, tags and (for bookables) which of the product's resources it uses. Fill out one option, then Add option or Duplicate to build the next — everything saves together when you save the product.

Validity (ticket options). Each ticket option sets how long it stays usable once bought:

  • Booked date only — valid for the date or slot the customer booked.
  • From purchase — valid for a set number of days starting the day it's bought.
  • From first use — valid for a set number of days starting the first time it's redeemed.

For the last two you also enter the number of days the ticket stays valid.

Options or modifiers? Use options when the price difference is the product (Adult vs Child, room types); use modifiers for add-ons and choices on top of it (shoe hire, milk choice).

Availability at a glance

Each product has an availability switch. From the product lists, the row menu offers 86 (mark unavailable) when you sell out and Mark available when it's back. For schedules, time windows, and how unavailable items appear to customers, open Products → Availability or see Menus & availability.

Got a long menu to enter? Don't type it all — see Importing products.
