Orders & reports

Analytics

See what is happening in your business in plain words, get told about problems and good news, and follow up carts people left in your ordering apps.

Analytics and Reports

Reports holds the official numbers: sales, payments, tax and cash-ups that you reconcile and send to your accountant.

Analytics explains what is happening and why: where customers come from, what they do, where they stop, what is likely next week, and what has changed. Its figures cover every location and are worked out from complete days in your business's time zone, so today is not included until it is over.

Open it from the sidebar: Analytics. Only owners and managers can see it.

Questions

The first page answers the questions owners ask most often, such as "How are sales this week?", "When are we busiest?", "What will next week look like?" and "Where do website visitors come from?".

  • Ma noticed shows problems and good news first: a drop in sales, a rise in left carts, a product that has started selling well.
  • Your questions shows the rest of the answers, each with its numbers and the period it covers.
  • Ask your own opens Ma with your question ready to send.
  • Waiting for more data lists questions that need a few more weeks of trading before the answer means anything. Nothing is guessed.

Every night Ma checks again. Anything worth knowing also appears under Assistant → Ma noticed and on the Calendar, on the day it was noticed, with a Weekly business summary every Monday.

Choose 7 days, 28 days or 90 days at the top of a page. Each figure is compared with the same number of days just before.

Where visitors are

Country is recorded for every visit. Town or city is recorded where it is available from the visitor's internet connection. It is approximate, never more precise than a town, and it is never an address.

How forecasts work

Each day is forecast from the same weekday over the last eight weeks, adjusted for whether the last four weeks were busier or quieter than the four before. The shaded band shows the likely range. With fewer than three weeks of history the forecast is marked as a rough guide. Weather and local events are not included yet.

Left carts

When someone adds items in one of your ordering apps and then leaves, the cart is kept. After an hour without activity it counts as left. If they order later, it counts as ordered later.

On Analytics → Ordering apps you can see each left cart: what was in it, its value, when it was left, and whether a reminder can be sent.

Reminders

A reminder is an email with the customer's cart and a link that puts it back in the app, ready to order.

  • Manual (the default). Choose Send reminder on a cart, or ask Ma to send reminders for the carts you pick. Ma always asks you to approve first.
  • Automatic. Turn on Send reminders automatically and reminders go out an hour and a day after the customer last touched the cart. You can turn it off at any time.

Who can get a reminder decides the audience:

  • Anyone who entered their details and saw the reminder notice (the default). The checkout shows a short notice under the email field saying the business may send one reminder about an unfinished order.
  • Only customers who agreed to marketing.

Nobody gets a reminder if they unsubscribed from your emails, stopped cart reminders, or have ordered since. Every reminder carries a link to stop further reminders. Change the wording under Settings → Branding → Communications → Left cart reminder.

Your privacy notice

Before you turn on automatic reminders, add a sentence like this to your privacy notice or terms, and check it fits the rules where you trade (especially in the UK and EU):

If you start an order and enter your email address but do not finish, we may send you up to two reminders about that order. Each reminder includes a link to stop further reminders.

Asking Ma

Ma can answer the same questions in a conversation, read any measure ("sales by channel for the last 90 days", "visitors by country this month"), list left carts and prepare reminders for your approval. Ma never sees customers' email addresses or phone numbers in these answers.
